Let me begin by telling you who I am and why I am qualified to be selling oval box making supplies and giving advice on making them. I am Canada’s leading maker of Shaker oval boxes and carriers. Over the past 20 years I have personally bent over 30,000 pieces of wood into oval boxes and carriers.

All of our bands are made from select cherry that we have sliced ourselves. You will find these to be superior to bands made from veneer because you no longer need to find the outside of the band, our bands bend equally well from either side and are sanded to 120 grit when you receive them.

You have a choice of woods for the lid, either cherry or birds eye maple. Both options are the same price. All of our lids, regardless of the size, are laminated. We've found laminate to be superior to solid wood because it eliminates the separation that can occur around the lid. Our box bottoms #0 thru #4 are solid Aspen. Our #5 through #8 bottoms are laminated to a plywood core.

Although Shaker Boxes and Carriers are mainly decorative today, they were originally a working box. The Shakers used them for storying kitchen ingredients to shop supplies. They were economical to build and they stored easily as you could nest a whole set in the space of the largest box.
